en Medical-Surgical Care Medical-Surgical Care پژوهشی اصيل Original Research <span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#44546a">Aims:</span></span></span></b> <span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:">Propofol and </span></span><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:">dexmedetomidine</span></span><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"> are used for general anesthesia. </span></span><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:">This study aimed to compare the effects of propofol and dexmedetomidine infusion on sedation in the recovery room for patients undergoing cholecystectomy.</span></span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#44546a">Materials & Methods:</span></span></span></b> <span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:">This randomized clinical trial was conducted on 70 patients scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Yasuj between 2023 and 2024. Patients were randomly assigned to two groups, including 35 cases who received propofol and 35 cases who received dexmedetomidine. The level of agitation was assessed using the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale at 0 and 40 minutes after surgery by the researcher. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 27 software utilizing the Chi-square test, independent t-test, and paired t-test. A significance level of p<0.05 was considered.</span></span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><strong><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#44546a">Findings:</span></span></span></strong> <span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:">At 40 minutes after the intervention, the mean agitation level in patients receiving dexmedetomidine (0.22&plusmn;0.72) was significantly lower than that of the propofol group (0.63&plusmn;0.81), indicating better sedation (<strong><span cambria="" style="font-family:">p=0.028</span></strong>).</span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="line-height:normal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"><span style="color:#44546a">Conclusion:</span></span></span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"><span cambria="" style="font-family:"> Dexmedetomidine is a preferable option than propofol for anesthesia management in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.</span></span></span></span></span> Propofol, Dexmedetomidine, Anesthesia , Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy 15 20 http://jccs.yums.ac.ir/browse.php?a_code=A-10-262-1&slc_lang=en&sid=1 A.
